formed by many - with the world around - over 10 days as part of the Lorne Sculpture Biennale - rewinding sculpture
18 - 27 March
“At the recent Lorne Sculpture Biennale, artist Pattie Beerens (@pattiebeerens) created an ephemeral work from found materials, titled dwell, as part of a practice she calls ‘rewilding sculpture’.
Using respectfully and locally sourced materials from Gadubanud land and surrounding areas, including white clay and feathers found on the beach, Pattie's work invited the public to “look out to the horizon, close eyes, touch, feel and smell the rawness of the seaside”. She encouraged interactions with her work, which took on the traces of both audience and environment.
The life cycle of dwell doesn't end with the closing of the Biennale. The use of white clay among the sourced materials means it will transform again in its departure.
"The clay is sloppy, it’s uncontrollable. It goes from wet to dry, when it rains it gets wet again. When it dries it reforms, eventually it goes back to the Earth."
You can learn more about Pattie’s work on the latest episode of Art Works, which airs on ABC TV plus tonight and will be available afterwards on iview.
